During the Civil War, Britain was sympathetic to the South. Many Confederate soldiers found refuge in Canada and inflicted raids along the northern NY border. Ogdensburg had three Home Guard units. After the war, Irish eyes turned homeward and focused on Ireland achieving their independence from England. British forces in Canada became a target......
