Grammar School Stories

OK  everyone who makes it to this page, here is your opportunity to share your Grammar School memories!  Send me an email at csterner@patmedia.net  with your CHS Class year and a memory and I will put it on this site.

1.  From Linda Laraby Surface - Class of 1973:

....just looking at the old pic's of Grammer school on Judson St. we went to sent chills down my spine, I remember getting hit in forehead with the iron rings we swang from one to the other and going to nurses office in 4th grade and my mom and dad being called to pick me up from school with concussion.....  and Flo Dingman's orange tree...I remember Denis Barr and I always helped her load it up at end of school yr. to take home and baby, we did this 4th, 5th and 6th grades. She treasured it so much guess that's where I learned in my early years how much I loved plants and trees. ( I have a degree in Horticulture).

2.  One from me - Connie Molnar Sterner - Class of 1973:

Remember every summer at the Grammar School they had a special program where you could do crafts - make boondoggles and cane chairs?  One summer they had these mini plays you could be in.   Karis Ayrassian  and Jan Baffaro were in this little play and they were both witches...They had this big caldron that they were stirring with their brooms, and singing, "Stirring and stirring and stirring our brew,  oooh ,ohhh...Karis knocked over the caldron, the two of them started laughing so hard they fell down on the stage and the big black curtain had to be shut closed. You could still hear those knuckle heads rolling on the floor with laughter!  I don't think they finished the play.  It was all over at that point.

When ever I am in a really down mood I think of these things and the memories still  make me giggle.  Those idiotic little things.

Remember that grammar school where we used to wear shorts under our skirts so we could climb on the jungle gym after lunch?  Someone would always puke on the stirs coming in and the janitors would sprinkle that pink granular stuff on the stairs?
